Asiya Swaleh on nurturing the next generation of insurance professionals
3 June 2025At Fulcrum Group, we believe that mentorship is a powerful tool for shaping the future of the insurance industry. That’s why we are proud to celebrate Iman Dalia, who has been selected for the IIG Roots & Wings mentorship programme, an initiative designed to nurture the next generation of industry leaders.
Organised by the Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG), Roots & Wings pairs young professionals with experienced mentors, providing invaluable opportunities for career growth, industry insight, and personal development. This structured programme is designed to equip mentees with essential skills, broaden their perspectives, and connect them with influential industry figures.
Iman has been paired with Cliff Garrun, Executive Chairman of Garrun Group, an esteemed industry leader who will guide and support her throughout this transformative journey. Reflecting on what inspired her to join, Iman shared:
“Inspiration can spark from the most heartfelt moments, and for me, it was Sue Adams who ignited this journey of growth. Hearing her speak about her mentee’s transformation resonated deeply with me. I realised I, too, wanted to experience that kind of personal and professional evolution.”
While she initially doubted her chances of being selected, receiving her acceptance letter was both a surprise and an honour – especially when she learned that Cliff Garrun had specifically requested to mentor her.
“The Roots & Wings programme has quickly become a cornerstone of my development. With Cliff’s mentorship and the support of my colleagues, I am finding the courage to reach my full potential. This journey has already been transformative, and I can’t wait to see the person I become by the end of the year.”
For Iman, this experience is about more than just career growth – it’s about breaking through self-doubt and embracing confidence:
“Self-esteem is something I’ve struggled with, despite knowing I have something to offer. The ‘speed dating’ session with potential mentors was eye-opening. While I expressed my struggles with confidence, the mentors saw a different version of me – a capable and promising young professional. That moment shifted something in me.”
As she continues through the programme, Iman looks forward to strengthening her skills, expanding her network, and stepping into her potential – both professionally and personally.
At Fulcrum Group, we are incredibly proud of Iman’s journey and believe that mentorship plays a vital role in building a stronger, more connected industry. We look forward to supporting her growth and celebrating her achievements.
Congratulations, Iman! We can’t wait to see where this journey takes you.
